I am a Senior Accounting Executive who has spent the last decade in the most dangerous place in the corporate world: Middle Management.
I have the MBA, the CPA background, and the leadership experience required to manage a Fortune 500 General Ledger. I like spreadsheets. I like logic. I like things that can be reconciled to the penny. Unfortunately, my job usually involves managing people—and people are the one thing that never, ever reconciles.
I’m the Reluctant Boss. I didn’t necessarily ask to be the person who decides who gets the “good” chair or who has to tell a grown adult they can’t bring their iguana to a client meeting. I just wanted to do the work, but somehow I ended up in charge of the “Wild.”
I’m staying undercover because, frankly, I’m still navigating the jungle. I’m the person in the meeting nodding at the “Visionary Leaders” while secretly wondering how I’m going to explain to them that the budget was spent on a fraudulent “Federal Agent” scam.
